I was recently asked by the LA Times to cite my "most amazing sports moment". I didn't have to think more than a moment. Here it is:
"The Flip" - Derek Jeter
My choice for most amazing sports moment is from the 2001 American League Division Series (Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics). With Jeremy Giambi on first base, Oakland's Terrence Long doubled to right field. As Giambi rounded third base and headed home, Yankee's right fielder Shane Spencer retrieved the ball from the corner and made a wild throw toward Yankee's catcher, Jorge Posada. The throw missed the cut-off man, Tino Martinez, and one-hopped up the first base line. Derek Jeter came out of nowhere, grabbed the ball, and back-handed it to Posada. Giambi was out. The Yankee's went on to win the game, 1-0, and the series.

I think I've got one that tops that, sir.
I once heard this story...
The Yankees were playing the Angels at 4:30. Now, it wasn't quite gametime yet -- the Yanks were still in batting practice -- and this really awesome guy and his son were standing next to the Yanks' Dugout. Jeter, coming from the practice, happened to walk down into the dugout -- ended up chatting with the guy and his son and then gave them the bat he had just used to practice with. I hear the bat still had the pine tar on it!
I think that one takes the cake ; )
Can't wait to meet you, sir! Only the best, Jenny Clark |

Ok, I'm paranoid - I have to put a disclaimer. The above info I read in a washingtonpost.com (THECHAT) interview that Mr. Bell gave in... I believe October of '06. So ya... I am not a stalker! ...at least not in a bad way... LOL - kidding-kidding : P

*shakes head* Jenny you may wish to be wary of security cameras. Lol.
Mr. Bell, you should review football. Football I like. Baseball makes so sense to me. Except for the part that involves Funnel Cake and those queer little cinnamon dough rolled bread sticky things...TORNADOS! There we go. Unless you want to write a book explaining baseball. That would be nice.

Mr. Bell, I have to say I'm a huge fan. I wish that the Saw franchise would never end! I'm also a huge Yankee/Derek Jeter fan. He seems to be a really great guy, and he undoubtedly has made some of the most memorable plays in the history of sports. I can picture in my head the exact play you described above. I've dreamed of meeting him since I was 10 years old, and now I dream of meeting you one day too. I'm an aspiring singer/songwriter/actress and my dream of making it to the big time is closer than I ever imagined it could be, within my reach. I know things change and anything could happen, but I keep dreaming. Therefore, I just want to thank you for inspiring me cause you truly have. I can't wait for the next Saw and I hope to one day meet you and the amazing crew!
Always Love, Music, Yankees and Jigsaw :-) Dena

Um...people need to avoid sounding like creepy stalkers in their posts. Except Jenny, because she does so with class and intelligent posts.
Some people make me wonder.
Nothing personal pinkballerina, it's just a pet peeve when people don't capitalize words in blogs and posts. *twitch* |
